Hi this is Ann .I was born here in Oban, as were both my parents &
grandparents, so I suppose you could say that I am "Local". I have a
son and daughter, Who both agree that it’s a job bringing up mother.
But love me none the less.
My son Brian (McGovern) lives here in Oban, and my daughter Maureen
(also McGovern) lives on the lovely sunshine island of Mallorca.
My Dad was Tommy Watt who ran his own taxi business from 1948 until
he died ( at the early age of 57) in July 1982.
My Mother was Morag (nee Currie) who also died all too soon aged 62
in July 1990. Any "old Oban" people will remember them singing at
the old Glengarry Club many years ago. They were both very musical,
and I know I took my love of music from them.
My first broadcast ( which was recorded and not live) on Oban f.M.
was way back in May 1994 when former presenter Nigel Fieldman (now
living in Perth), did a weekly show called "AN HOUR WITH"....
Each week he would have a local person come on, and play their kind
of music. As this was a recorded show, people were happy to take
their turn, as any mistakes could be edited out.
Shortly after that I was asked to come in and do some " Voice Overs"
(or adverts as I called them before becoming involved with radio.
Some months later, Nigel asked me if I would like to do another show
and I agreed. after that I was smitten and enjoyed "inflicting" my
kind of music, and views on the listening public.
When our late station manager Ian MacKay, Knowing that I was a
morning person suggested that I present one of the Daily "BREAKFAST
SHOWS" I jumped at the chance.
I have a very varied cross-section of music. I like 50’s 60’s,and
70’s Country & Western, and Scottish music. On my "BREAKFAST SHOW" I
play 60’s to 80’s, and always have a "COUNTRY CLASSIC" a" TOUCH OF
TARTAN", AND A "SLOPPY SPOT" for all the romantics. I also have a
very controversial "SOAP BOX SPOT" which helps stir up interest in
local things.
MY "SOAP BOX SPOT" is where I have a go at anyone, anything or any
public body who are drawn to my attention for one reason or another.
Listeners phone in with complaints from Councillors not doing what
they promised, to telling me of irresponsible drivers, dog owners,
businesses, neighbours, in fact anything that they want to get off
their chest, and I put their point out on air for them and wait for
the feedback, always being careful to let everyone know that this is
just my view, and not that of the station itself. WE WANT TO IMPRESS
NOT OFFEND !! and we certainly don’t want to jeopardise the station
in any way.
I’m not the greatest surfer out there in fact I’m only learning to
paddle the internet, but I look forward to hearing from you all out
there, and will be delighted to play any requests or dedications you
have for family, and friends here in Oban & surrounding areas.
