Hi. I took over the reigns of ‘Transmission Two’ in early 2003.
Previous to that I had been helping out Alastair Kingsbury with
‘Paper Monkey’ (A show I’m still involved with) on Mondays nights.
Transmission Two broadcasts on a Sunday night between 7 & 9pm with a
focus on new music. We play a mixture of styles from hip-hop to soul
to jazz to rock to indie to house to electronica to folk music and
back again. Only avoiding handbag house, the high end of the top 40
and anything the indie press are over hyping in a vain attempt to
try and boost their falling circulation. Imagine the Radio 1’s The
Breezeblock mixed with the Blue Room and Gilles Peterson’s show and
you’re heading in the right direction.
On top of that we’ve had a number of great mixes on the show over
the last few years from guest DJs such as Madlib, Four Tet, Peanut
Butter Wolf, Alex Smoke and Cash Money to name just a few.
Outside of Oban Fm I’m more of a collector of music than a DJing
wizard so you’re more likely to catch me in a charity shop eyeing up
the latest batch of classical 12"s than busting up the ‘wheels of
steel’ in some local club. Though on request I will bust some moves.
