Meet Oban F.Ms sports team, Who for the past six years have been
reporting on local sports news and views in the Oban F.M. catchment
area. For obvious reasons the predominant sports are :- FOOTBALL,
SHINTY, RUGBY,& ATHLETICS. But the team are keen and try to actively
encourage all sports to report and promote their sport through the
medium of radio. And we do report on sports as diverse as CHESS,
ARCHERY, AND THE WORLD STONE SKIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS held annually on
Seal Island near Oban. The team try to provide a comprehensive and
fair sports reporting service combined with humour based on local
knowledge. We also like from time to time to dig into Oban's
sporting past, and generate some debate and encourage people to
phone in with their views and memories. We try where possible to get
representatives from the different sports to come into the studio,
and report on their own sport rather than us doing it and we are
fairly successful in that we have a few stalwarts who come in week
after week to give their reports. The team consists of RODDY
McCIUSH, AND JOHN MacLEAN who are the presenters, supported by
DUNCAN MacKINNON coach of OBAN SAINTS under 19’s football team and
GRANT NICHOLSON who tends the phones and co-ordinates reports and
messages and is our link with you our listeners. But the most
important member of the team by far is STUART FRAZER who produces &
engineers the show, without him there would be no show. All the team
are local lads. Roddy & Duncan coming from a football background,
both having been involved in the past with several local teams
including OBAN SAINTS amateur football club. Duncan along with
Steven Carswell of Oban coached the Oban High school football team
to two consecutive Scottish Schools cup final wins, John comes from
an athletics background, of distance running and triathlons. Grant
also was a keen runner & successfully co managed for many years a
team of youngsters in the Oban & District junior football league,
Now THE OBAN EXPRESS PFL. Stuarts real talents lie in his technical
ability, and is not only an asset to this show but to Oban F.M. and
the community as a whole. Well that's us, and if you feel inclined
please contact us through this website from wherever you are in the
world. With your stories and memories. We would love to hear from
you. keep listening THE TEAM.
